Must Move Debacle

(On getting corralled into the wrong must-move game)

A similar thing happened to me Saturday night. One full 30-60 mix going
that includes three of the worst players in the room. Only one name on
the list ahead of mine. A few more players show up, one of them being the
best player (BP) in the room. He immediately drums up a must-move game, his
thought being the worst that could happen is he moves up the list.
So I find myself playing 4 handed with 2 of the best players I know.
Not exactly what I was looking forward to. I lose about $1000 real quick,
before a seat opens up in the main game. As soon as I go over, BP starts
drumming up interest in a 60-120 game which is beyond the means of my
current bankroll. A half hour later BP has converted the MM table to
60-120 and all the fish in my game jump over there to play, leaving me
in a broken game. I had gotten even plus a little cheese, but I was
still pissed. Not at BP, who has every right to maximize his position,
but I felt the floor should have done something stronger to protect the
integrity of the established game. As it was, they wouldn't let anyone
from the 30-60 go to 60-120 without a replacement. But once a new player
walked into the room and decided he wanted to play the big game, all
hell broke loose as a few of the players in my game screamed bloody
murder that they were stuck in the game they didn't want to play,
while a new guy in the room got to play the game. Everybody scrambled over
and I ended up waiting 2 hours for a 15-30 seat that never materialized.
Not sure what I could've done different, but be aware of the danger in the
future before sitting down to a short-handed tough must-move game.
comments? suggestions?
