This was my first BARGE, and prior to the event, I had met less than ten RGPers. Apologies to anyone I've left out. Upticks and Downticks: + First barger I run into is some guy playing 20-40 on table 6 at the Mirage while I'm at table 5. I see him wearing a usenet hat, and I ask him what groups he participates in. He says that his main one is rgp, and I say, "ooh, a poker newsgroup, how intriguing." Taking the bait even more, he says as a matter of fact... After revealing myself, I give Paul Phillips a short explanation of Bayes Theorem and getting your chain jerked. We go to dinner shortly thereafter and I get him again gambling on how hot the oven is (it pays to sit up straight). He's a good sport. + 2nd in RWC The only reason I entered this was they were short an even number of entries and one of the tiltboys (the tall one, forgot the name) offered me a $20 discount. I couldn't imagine not taking an overlay on something as random as roshambo, so I was in. Well it became clear to me as I mopped up in my first matches that this wasn't random at all. When Diceboy took me apart in the final, it was painfully more clear. I'm going to do quite a bit of sim work for next year. +/- PL game Friday night. In the first 90 minutes, there were honestly at least twenty pots > $1k. Diceboy was running over the table, taking >5c from Paul Phillips and myself on consecutive hands. I eventually got near even. I think Siegel won most of the money. + My plan of buying the "nonames" cheap at the Calcutta worked pretty good when two of them made it to the final table. To my horror, they got into a war just about every hand until they were eliminated 9th and 8th. I can't really complain tho given how I let down my purchaser with my weak play. - Flopped a set vs. a tiltboy on the second hand of the tourney, and pussed out when he made a move on the pot. I didn't want to be the first out and analyzed on rgp for the next year. A very poor decision. - Getting sick from all the smoke. I've been to Nevada 6 times in the last year and gotten sick 5. A hundred years from now people will look back and ask, "why did poker players of all hobbies have to be subject to illness to play their game?" Not trying to start YAST, but you'll have a hard time convincing me that their is something magical about poker singularly of all competitive activities that gives people the right to make their opponents ill for a week. California here I come. Would love to show my support of the Showboat tourney, but my wife is due that month. Probably not a good time for travelling.. + Meeting everyone. It was really great being able to put a face to all the names on RGP, IRC and TPT. - Sorry to anyone/anything I left out. This report is incomplete.
