I see the satellite and "main" tourney as completely orthogonal issues, given a liquidity in the chips you win from the satellite (a la the WSOP). If you win 3 lammers in a one-table and could turn around and sell them for $1485-1500, then winning that satellite has no bearing on whether or not you should play in the tournament. The $1500 is the same whether or not you got it in a satellite, ring game, or (gasp) a job.
